I lead a biomarker serum proteomics study in collaboration with the Department of Defense where we applied linear mixed effects and prediction modeling to better understand disease pathogenesis and predict disease onset. The study resulted in a publication in Arthritis & Rheumatology, a conference presentation at ACR 2023, and a patent application.
Tools: R, mixed effect models, elastic net, ggplot2I developed a novel machine learning algorithms to answer the basic question: if I know some features are important, which combinations of these are important together, and can I quantify how important these combinations are? I led this research from start to finish, including the statistical derivation, simulation studies, manuscript writing, and developed the accompanying machine learning software package in both R & python.
Tools: R, lme4, miceCo-led a survey study with the Latino Center for Health at the University of Washington to better understand the impact of Long COVID in Latino communities in Washington State. Responsibilities included designing the survey, randomization, data analysis, and manuscript writing. We presented findings at the WA Public Health Agency, Northwest Migrant Health Conference, and the UW Latino Center for Health Symposium. Additionally, we spoke with the Latino News Network about the study and its findings, and published this in the Journal of General Internal Medicine.
